Topic

Department of Insurance Anti-Fraud Efforts -
Emerging Trends & Case Studies

Shawn joined the Fraud Division in 2001 as a detective in the San Diego Regional Office. As a detective and later as a sergeant and captain he investigated and supervised the investigation of hundreds of complex insurance fraud cases across Southern California.

Fraud Division detectives are peace officers who investigate allegations of insurance fraud related to workers’ compensation claims and premiums, automobile insurance, property casualty insurance, healthcare insurance, and disability insurance across the State of California. These investigations can range from a claimant buying insurance after a car crash to medical referral kickback schemes with hundreds of millions of dollars in fraud. The Fraud Division also provides outreach to the insurance industry, law enforcement, and the public regarding preventing and identifying insurance fraud.
