Fraud Syndicates

For over the past decade, unlawful syndicates of attorneys, doctors, and marketers colluding virtually undetected while buying and selling claimants has led to a multi-billion dollar underground economy in California, causing chaos with employers, insurance carriers, law enforcement, and the general public. These operating syndicates have re-written the definition of “capping” and evolved the “pay to play” game into some of the most complex and organized financially impactful models that have ever existed. Their schemes have led to a wave of legislative reform and criminal cases that have labeled their actions as “using people like ATMS,” “buying and selling people like cattle,” “cashed in on people who trusted them,” and “using guerilla marketing.” These criminal enterprises rallied together in an organized fashion, creating multiple billing opportunities within every case, from the initial marketing and capping of the claimant, to selling the claimant off to the doctors and attorneys, to billing as a DME, as a pharmacist, as transportation, as interpreting, as copy services, as a QME, as a surgeon, as MRIs, as NCV, as EMG, you name it- they figured out how to bill you for it.

Teena Barton is a national speaker/instructor for attorney associations, insurance industry and law enforcement. She was featured in a nationally covered story by Reveal News and NPR radio called “Billion Dollar Scam.” For the past 2 years, she collaborated on a national speaking circuit with the convicted attorney from Operation Backlash, who considered himself the mentor to the criminals who orchestrated some of the most complex insurance fraud schemes in the nation. She is currently collaborating with California Attorney Associations to co-author fraud law articles. She has investigated these complex rings and the audience will benefit from her collaboration with insiders, targets, and participants of these crimes..
